What's in a name?

Rebecca started trial lessons in a Chinese playgroup 2 weeks ago. Her Chinese teacher asked me what her name was and it took me a few moments to recall - I then realized that we hardly address her by her Chinese name.

This led me to become more concious of her name and I am trying to use her various names to get her more familiar with them.

Rebecca was born in Shanghai and was issued with a birth certificate from the Chinese Government. Given that local Chinese do not have as complex names as we do in Singapore, Papa Bear and I only managed to squash her English name onto her brith cert (yes, the space allocated was simply not enough to accomodate dialect, english AND chinese characters). We have to get a poll deed done back in Singapore to amend that.

Rebecca's full name is:

Chew Tze Shuen, Rebecca (Zhou Zixian, Rebecca) 周子纤

周 Zhou = Family lineage from Papa Bear's side
子 Zi = 神的孩子 or Child of God
纤 Xian = Has 2 pronounciations , qian or xian for 纤. We picked xian(1) meaning fine, delicate

Rebecca - Biblical name in Hebrew: captivating, to tie, beautiful, desirable

maomao, ya I remember. She picked up all the skills faster than any of the boys there! Malc isn't keen in his milk and food. I am now adopting a bohchup mindset when he rejects his food, but comes to milk, I still insist he finish the bottle. Grueling time for me now. Sigh...
